The Shrimp Farm Market, LLC.
Started in 2013 by Russ Allen, a veteran shrimp farmer with experience in Ecuador and Belize, The Shrimp Farm Market in Okemos, MI proves that white shrimp can be grown economically indoors using recirculation systems, at prices that are competitive with pond-raised imported shrimp. Allen uses a proprietary feeding technology that converts bacteria to food for the shrimp, resulting in food conversion ratios of just 1:1, greatly reducing production costs. Allen’s research company, Seafood Systems, Inc., is attempting to commercialize his technology and build a full size indoor commercial shrimp farm in Michigan near his present pilot scale farm, which produces harvests of about 1,500 pounds a month. Shrimp Farm Market white shrimp are sold fresh at farmers markets in Michigan and can be shipped by overnight delivery throughout the U.S.
