The whiteleg shrimp's journey begins in Islamorada, Florida, where they are hatched and then shipped overnight to New Jersey once they reach eleven days old. Once the whiteleg shrimp have reached The Big Shrimp Co.’s New Jersey facility, they are safely integrated into their 75,000-gallon indoor shrimp farm. Utilizing naturally sourced saltwater trucked in from the Barnegat Bay, the water is biologically filtered, heated, oxygenated and circulated through an ultraviolet light system and then oxygenated again to remove any harmful bacteria from the water. Fed a specially formulated diet to reduce disease and promote healthier shrimp, the resulting shrimp are free of antibiotics and added chemicals.
