Taylor Fish Farm
Taylor Fish Farm is a family-owned and operated tilapia farm located in Cedar Grove, NC. Founded by Valee Taylor and Renee Stewart in 2009, Taylor Fish Farm operates on the belief that ‘pampering’ their fish from egg to adulthood creates an unparalleled taste, a trait that has earned them loyal fans all along the eastern seaboard.
Working with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service and North Carolina State University to design their facilities, Taylor Fish Farm was able to install a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) comprised of a three-phase electric power supply. Their tank water is continuously recycled through a filtration system where microbeads filter and purify the water, and is then re-oxygenated and returned to the tanks for reuse.
The tilapia at Taylor Fish Farm are fed a soybean meal diet to boost their Omega 3 to a Omega 6 ratio and are raised without the use of steroids, growth hormones, or antibiotics. Unlike pond raised fish where mercury levels can cause concern, their tilapia is mercury free as it's raised in a controlled RAS and is fed absolutely no animal by-products. Taylor Fish Farm is also proud to be one of only two tilapia operations in the United States with IMO (Institute of Marketecology) certification. IMO certification ensures compliance with the Whole Foods Market Quality Standards for Farmed Seafood as well as guarantees that their fish are eco-friendly and socially responsible.
