Marine Harvest Canada
Operating alongside its sister facilities in Norway, Scotland, Chile, Ireland, and the Faroe Islands, Marine Harvest Canada and the Marine Harvest Brand collectively produce one-fifth of the world’s farm-raised salmon. In Canada, Marine Harvest operates salmon farms on the coasts of British Columbia and Vancouver Island, where over 500 employees produce 40,000 tonnes of farm-raised Atlantic salmon each year.
At Marine Harvest Canada, their Atlantic salmon is farmed using an integrated system of brood stock selection, freshwater hatcheries, saltwater farms and a state-of-the-art processing plant. Sold under the Sterling premium brand name, Marine Harvest’s salmon is a three-star certified product by the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices. In addition to their GAA certification, Marine Harvest is also the first company in North America to have its farm certified to the Aquaculture Stewardship Council salmon standard.
For Marine Harvest Canada, environmental sustainability means operating a business that is environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically viable. They are committed to meeting and exceeding all government environmental regulations and to communicating environmental sustainability research findings by making data available through their website.
