FishChoice is a nonprofit, conservation minded organization that assists seafood buyers in the procurement of environmentally preferable, eco-friendly seafood products that have been ranked or certified by a recognized environmental organization. FishChoice also seeks to help new fish farming and wild fisheries that utilize environmentally responsible fishing methods find markets for their products.
Each environmental organization that provides rankings or certifications for seafood sustainability has a different set of criteria and may have specific seafood species in which they specialize. By selecting one of these programs, you can be assured that all of the seafood products you see meet the specific criteria of that organization’s system or certification.
Since FishChoice has rankings from several different organizations, it is necessary to specify one of the organizations to view their seafood rankings. Your free registration allows us to provide customized search results that match your preferences.
Currently, all participants in FishChoice do so at no charge. At some future date, we do anticipate charging a small subscriber fee.
FishChoice is a nonprofit organization that is currently funded by private foundations and individual donors. In the future, FishChoice will receive some of its operating income from subscriber fees.
The FishChoice team is constantly working to find sources of ocean friendly seafood that meet the criteria set out by our partner environmental organizations. The collaborations with other environmental organizations also allows us to stay on top of the ever-growing pool of information about environmentally preferable seafood species, regions and gear and farm types.

Anyone can submit a product by going to the submit products page. FishChoice will then contact you to gather any additional information about your product(s). Once your product(s) have been determined to meet the criteria for environmentally preferable seafood product or is certified as sustainable it will be added to the FishChoice database.
