Core Sound Seafood
SeattleFishCommunity is Core in North Carolina

Core Sound LogoCore Sound Seafood was started as a way to connect the fishermen of Down East Carteret County, North Carolina to new markets that appreciate buying direct from primary producers so they can tell the story of where their seafood comes from. Most of these fishermen have been fishing all their lives and often they can trace their fishing heritage back four or five generations. Unfortunately, these fishermen are increasingly leaving their life on the water as rising operational costs combined with competition from low cost imported seafood threatens their livelihood. By connecting fishermen with buyers further down the distribution chain who appreciate the freshest, locally-caught seafood, Core Sound Seafood is preserving a way of life that is the very essence of the region's coastal communities.

A Community Supported Fishery (CSF), Core Sound Seafood also sells weekly catch shares to the local community, giving consumers a chance to connect Core Sound Fishingwith fishermen and assuring them access to the very best seafood they can buy. As part of its business philosophy of giving back to the community, Core Sound Seafood pledges a portion of the proceeds from selling shares to provide financial help to commercial fishermen on an as-needed basis.
Core Sound Fishing
Core Sound Seafood can ship a wide variety of seafood direct to restaurants and retail markets, most of which is caught the same day it is shipped. Primary species include fluke (summer flounder), blue crab (hard, softshell and meat), hard clams, scallops, bluefish, shrimp and oysters. It's hard to imagine fish that is fresher. Much of the flounder, for example, is caught using fish traps, which means it can be held live until it's ready to be shipped. No wonder this flounder is a favorite of the sushi trade.

Core Sound Seafood would be happy to welcome potential and existing customers to their unique corner of the coast, where you can still hear the local "High Tider" accent, a dialect remnant of Elizabethan English that now mixes with a general southern accent. Come meet the fishermen, who will be happy to share a good sea story or two.
